You’re thinking about getting your .com, but you’re not sure where to start? There are indeed several questions to ask yourself before getting your domain name and using it effectively. Thinking about opening an online store? Start your own online store with Panierdachat!

What to use as a domain name?

Firstly, if you already have your business, it makes sense to use your business name as it is. However, a good domain name should be easy to remember and spell.

Some words may sound good when read, but when spaces are removed, reading can become more difficult or even cause confusion (e.g., Les pâtés d’Émile vs lespatesdemile.com). So, it’s up to you to change some details of your domain name if they pose a problem. If your name is very long, it’s recommended to shorten it to avoid possible typos that could discourage your customers.

There is a variety of extensions, from .com to .net passing through .org, not to mention country code extensions. Think according to your clientele. A .com will be versatile, but a .ca may inspire more confidence in Canadian customers, or a .fr for French customers.

How to get a domain name?

You can approach a registrar, purchase it, and register it yourself. Or you can free yourself from this task by entrusting it to our team. In the first case, you can follow our tutorial to change the DNS and link your new domain name to your store hosted with us.

Note that you can have multiple domain names redirected to a single domain. If your company is called “Trésors de Cathy”, you can host your store under tresorsdecathy.com, but also register tresordecathy.com without an S and tresorsdekathy.com with a K, in case potential customers hear about you orally without knowing how to write your domain name, for example.

Don’t forget about renewal!

Your domain name becomes your identity on the internet. When you work with your site, adding blog articles or sharing your store on social media, you contribute to its popularity. In other words, the more you animate your website, the more Google will favor you in searches.

So, you’ll need to remember to renew the domain name each year. Forgetting it may allow someone else to buy it and take advantage of the visibility and good SEO you’ve worked on. If you want someone to look after your domain name by renewing it every year, turn to Panierdachat, we’ll take care of the rest! You can then focus on your sales, with peace of mind. 😉
